Making Music Theory Fun
My specialty in teaching Music Theory is to take what is generally a bland subject and make it fun, interesting and relevant to a modern musician.
Modern Musician Theory
The second theory category is the modern musician (potentially self taught) who seeks a greater understanding of basic Music Theory so as to broaden their knowledge of music and to be able to better improvise, read music, grasp what it is they’re hearing when they listen to music, compose and appreciate music to a larger degree etc.
For the Modern/Self Taught Musician all lesson material is provided. Emphasis is on relevant Music Theory only. I have a unique and simple approach to opening up Music Theory to even the newest of students which enables them to start applying relatively advanced concepts immediately. I make understanding Keys, Scales and Modes, Harmony and Rhythm etc easy.
Lesson Frequency
Lesson frequency is usually once per week but can be increased depending on student needs.
Payments for Lessons
You can choose to pay for the term in advance or pay weekly. Whatever works best for you, we're happy to accommodate. Contact us to learn more about our payment options.
Classical or Jazz Theory
Music Theory students tend to fall into 2 categories. The first is the Classical/Jazz Musician who needs to study Theory in order to keep up with the increasing complexity of their pieces and or sit AMEB Music Theory Exams.
For the Classical/Jazz student once level is ascertained it’s usually a case of purchasing a Music Theory exercise book at the correct grade (such as Master Your Theory by Dulcie Holland) and beginning to systematically work through the chapters of the book.
Music Theory Teaching Style
I work with my students to ascertain exactly what it is they wish to achieve in their study of Music Theory and then create an engaging and enjoyable lesson plan to suit.
There is always a reason why something sounds good, and the study of Music Theory provides the student with the keys to this understanding.
