Learning to play the guitar can be a rewarding experience for both adults and children. At my guitar lessons, I strive to create a positive and supportive environment where students feel encouraged to learn and grow. I believe that mistakes are a natural part of the learning process, I work to foster a no fear learning environment where students are never afraid to make mistakes. My principle goal with new students is to assess their level and help them start playing their favorite music as soon as possible. I believe that learning should be fun, and I work to make each lesson engaging and enjoyable. Whether you're an adult looking to learn guitar skills, or a parent seeking guitar lessons for your child, I'm here to help you achieve your goals and develop a lifelong love of music.
About Guitar Lessons
Duration
Generally lessons run for 30 minutes. 45 and 60 minute lessons are also available. If the student happens to be young ie 3-5yrs - a lesson time of 15 minutes is usually more appropriate.
Cancellation of Lesson
If for any reason a student is unable to attend their scheduled guitar lesson, we kindly request a minimum of 24 hours notice. This allows us to offer the time slot to another student. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Play Your Favorite Songs
If a beginner student's favourite music happens to be of an advanced level song, I will provide a simplified version. If the sheet music for a particular favourite song isn’t available, I transcribe it ie, listen to it and write it down (this is at no additional cost to the student and a value that other schools don’t provide.
My Approach to Guitar Lessons
I place special emphasis on the student being able to play along with their favourite songs. Pieces aren’t really finished until the student can play their songs with the record! The reason why this is the finishing milestone, is because this signals that the student could play and/or accompany someone/friends/themselves in a real life situation.
Lesson Frequency
Lesson frequency is usually once per week but can be increased depending on student needs.
For school aged students lessons operate within the normal 10 week school terms. I do make myself available for lessons during school holidays on request.
Adult guitar lessons operate all year round.
Payments for Lessons
You can choose to pay for the term in advance or pay weekly. Whatever works best for you, we're happy to accommodate. Contact us to learn more about our guitar payment options.
Lesson Materials
I provide all of the material for the student in terms of sheet music, technical exercises and sheets that explain basic technique and reading ie notes, rhythm, and tone production. This is at no additional cost to the student.
Guitar Lesson Progression
Lessons generally commence with technical work i.e scales and exercises. Then we move onto piece work (song or musical composition).
Another principle goal is to teach reading and basic music theory through the use of the students favourite music. There are many reading and theory lessons to be had even in the humblest/easiest of songs.
